Calix AXOS - Provisioning Transparent LAN Service on Calix AXOS - GPON
Transparent LAN service (TLS or TLAN) is a service that provides an extension of the customer's network through the ISPs network. Ethernet circuit is a TLS with only two endpoint. Inherent to providing a TLS is that all customer's traffic is tagged with a VLAN tag belonging to the service provider that will be used to transport the traffic through the ISP network. Since the service requires adding another VLAN tag (pushing a tag) as it ingresses the ISP network, it is important to identify the customer's traffic.
While endpoints for the circuit are usually Ethernet NID, TLS can be configured on the ONT. This KB assumes configuration with Calix GPON ONTs.
Steps
- Identify endpoint ONTs - This information should be obtained from the client along with speed of the circuit.
- Build VLAN for the circuit (and add it to the transport is applicable) - Keep in mind that VLAN should be unique. If the TLS is between the ONTs different E7 nodes, the VLAN will need to placed on the ring/LAG and built on all nodes.
- Building ClassMap (if necessary) - ClassMaps are used to identify the traffic incoming into the port. If the SMx does not have a ClassMap that identifies both Untagged and Tagged traffic with any VLAN, you will need to build it. Poka's SMx has it.
- Build PolicyMap (if necessary) - PolicyMaps are used to define the speed profiles and references a ClassMap. The PolicyMaps with a ClassMap that match both All Tagged and Untagged traffic is pretty much exclusively be for TLS. On the speed profile is it a good rule of thumb to give 10% margin. If the PolicyMap does not exist, you will need to build it. Poka's SMx has it.
- Build Service Template (if necessary) - Service Templates are used to provision service. There is a specific setting for TLS and it should reference a PolicyMap. However, the template should allow for changing the PolicyMap.
- Build service on each endpoint ONT.
