Calix SMx - Global VLAN IDs
This article is to show how Global VLAN IDs are created and used in SMX. Global VLAN IDs are used to help customer service reps provision services across multiple sites without having to worry about what VLANs to use for what services. Note that the use of Global VLAN IDs is a topic to be discussed during the planning phase of a deployment, if possible, as the Global VLAN IDs must be configured on each node which will process the Global VLAN ID.
When provisioning a VLAN on a shelf in SMX you can create a "Global VLAN ID" that can be referenced at time of provisioning. For instance, the examples below show the VLAN 199 being created with a Global VLAN ID of "Data" on one shelf and the VLAN 182 being created with a Global VLAN ID of "Data" on another shelf:

Once the VLAN's have been created, they are now able to be referenced in the templates that are used to provision services for customers.
(Note: The templates being used must have the “Global VLAN ID” either pre-provisioned or have the Override selected so it can be set at time of provisioning.)

(Note: Only ONT that are built as an “ONT Type: Global” can use the Global VLAN IDs. If an ONT is built local it will not have the capability to use Global VLAN IDs.)
