Calix SMx - How to Upgrade AXOS Through SMX
1. Log into your My Calix account and access the "Software Center" page.

2. Navigate through the Software Center page to find the required software version needed and click on it to download.

3. Download the software version and click on the release notes to ensure a direct upgrade is possible. (page 3, under "Upgrade Information")


4. Extract the Zip file downloaded.

5. Connect to the client's VPN.
6. Move the extracted software version file to client side using FTP. (ex. WinSCP)

7. Log into the client's SMX and navigate to the "Workflows" tab and access the "System" under Software Image.

8. Click the "Add SW Image" button and fill out the information, keeping the same formatting as other versions listed.


NOTE: The file name will need to be the same as it is listed in the FTP server. When everything is filled out click on the "test" button to ensure it recognizes the file before submitting.
9. Navigate to the "Network" tab and locate and click on the equipment to apply the update to.

10. After clicking on the equipment, navigate to the "Actions" dropdown on the righthand side and click on "Upgrade".

11. In the upgrade screen, select "Download Only" in the option dropdown. Then select the desired version and upgrade.

12. The upgrade screen will then show you progress reports, for more detailed information you can log into the shelf and run the command "show upgrade status" periodically.

13. When the download shows complete in CLI and on the upgrade page, you can proceed with activating. Under the option dropdown in the same "Upgrade" page, select "Activate Only" and press upgrade.

14. When the page and/or CLI shows complete, the software is activated. Equipment will then need to be rebooted to be active on the software. Log into the shelf in CLI and run the command "reload all" to reboot the shelf. When running the command, you will be prompted to confirm a reload. This will have customer impact while the shelf is down.
NOTE: To track the downtime, run a continuous ping to the management IP of the shelf. When the pings stop the shelf is down, and when they resume the shelf has booted back up.
15. After the shelf is booted back up, ensure the software version took by looking at the "Network" tab and locating the equipment. On the main page you can see the status and active software version.
